Group experience
US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Advanced Level
This Bird Nerds group is asynchronous, we will not have any live meetings. If you have a child that is constantly talking about birds, enroll them in this group. The goal of this group is to have fun while interacting and learning interesting facts about birds and completing different bird-themed activities with other "Bird Nerds" through sharing and discussion. I will post a minimum of one thread per week regarding birds to encourage students to chat with one another and share sketches, facts, riddles, books, and news items about birds. The posts will vary but will include conversation starters and requests to share their interest in birds with their peers In addition to my weekly posts, learners are also encouraged to make posts of their own. Their posts could be to share anything they would like regarding birds, it could be a new fact that they learned, a bird they saw in their part of the world, ask a question about a certain bird, or just about anything they can think of that is bird-related. My job as the head Bird Nerd is to create weekly posts to encourage conversations, comment on students' posts and ensure a fun and safe environment for each student. Discussions will vary each week depending on the interests of each and every student but will always be based on birds. Possible posts: * This is the time of year that many birds migrate. What activity have you seen in your part of the world? * I love a good bird sketch. Who has done one lately on paper or in a digital format? * There are so many different kinds of songbirds. Which ones are active in your neighborhood right now? * Have you heard of any news stories about birds recently? Has a new species been discovered? * Do you have any bird photographs that you would like to share with our group this week?
Learning Goals
Students will gain leadership skills and confidence as they share what they know about birds.

Guidelines
Welcome to our Bird Nerds Group! We want all of our learners to feel comfortable, connected, and safe. That's why we have 3 rules we ask you to follow: Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Respectful.
Be Kind - Help all learners feel welcome and included.
Learners from all over the world, with different backgrounds, races, ethnicities, abilities, gender identities, religions and body types, participate in our Group. Always be nice and make others, especially new learners, know that they belong and are welcome. Teasing, name calling, or bullying anybody in our community? Nope. Not happening here
Be Safe - Keep your personal information private and never ask other learners for theirs.
Personal things are personal. We want to keep you safe on Outschool, but we also want YOU to understand how to be safe when you're meeting other learners or teachers. Keep your full name, home address, gaming or social media name, email, and school name private.
Be Respectful - Treat others how you want to be treated.
Keep language clean and information you share safe. If you wouldn't say it or share with your grandma, don't do it here. Swear words, racy videos, and violent images are not allowed. Treat Outschool like a public place, and when in doubt, keep things covered.
