Bird Nerds: An Ornithology Social Club 11-14
What's included
1 live meeting
40 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Advanced Level
Each forty-minute class includes a Google Slide presentation that helps guide a conversation about the week's bird-concept-of-the-week. This club will be very interactive and student-led with bird lovers sharing pets, photos, sketches, and facts about birds they would like to introduce to the group. A virtual "talking stick" will be passed around the "Zoom Room" so each learner will have time to talk and share if they wish. We will make observations about birds that live in our homes, in our neighborhoods, and in habitats around the world. Teacher-created worksheets and coloring pages are optional. If you have a topic you'd like to discuss, please make a suggestion and I'll create a class. My goal is to build a welcoming, engaging, and educational community of learners, AKA “Bird Nerds”. Since this is an ongoing class, each class stands on its own so you are not required to attend every week. You can start and stop your subscription to suit your schedule! Current Schedule: August 30 Wading Birds ***No Classes on September 6, 13 or 20*** September 27 Birds of Japan October 4 Responsible Pet Owners October 11 Extinct Birds October 18 Birds of Puerto Rico October 25 Puffins November 1 Flightless Birds November 8 Birds of New Guinea November 15 Shorebirds November 21 Hawks and Vultures **If your student needs accommodations please let me know and we will work together to ensure that they have the best possible class experience.** Parent Reviews: "My daughter definitely found her people with this class! She looks forward to it every week and loves having other kids to share her love of all things birds with. The teacher is wonderful. She’s very caring and does a great job coming up with interesting topics and facilitating discussion". Ms. Judy is definitely one of the best Outschool teachers. She is very experienced and she cares deeply about kids. She covers materials that are well prepared and thought through that provoke thinking and discussion. She listens to every student and makes sure every student is included. My kid has passion and knowledge towards birds and she covers this topic so well for him and other kids who have an interest in birds from many different directions. My son has been taking this class with Ms. Judy for 2 years and he still loves it. Judy also offers this chat group for ages 7-10.
