What's included

1 live meeting
40 mins in-class hours per week

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Advanced Level
Each forty-minute class includes a Google Slide presentation that helps guide a conversation about the week's bird-concept-of-the-week. This class meets two times per month.

This club will be very interactive and student-led with bird lovers sharing pets, photos, sketches, and facts about birds they would like to introduce to the group. A virtual "talking stick" will be passed around the "Zoom Room" so each learner will have time to talk and share if they wish.

We will make observations about birds that live in our homes, in our neighborhoods, and in habitats around the world. Teacher-created worksheets and coloring pages are optional. If you have a topic you'd like to discuss, please make a suggestion and I'll create a class.

My goal is to build a welcoming, engaging, and educational community of learners, AKA “Bird Nerds”. Since this is an ongoing class, each class stands on its own so you are not required to attend every week. You can start and stop your subscription to suit your schedule!

Current Schedule:
November 21 Hawks and Vultures
***Bird Nerds will begin meeting twice monthly beginning in December 2024
December 20 Flightless Birds
December 27 Mourning Doves
January 10 Birds of North America
January 24 Wading Birds
February 7 Prairie and Grassland Birds
February 21 The Albatross

Parent Reviews:
"My daughter definitely found her people with this class! She looks forward to it every week and loves having other kids to share her love of all things birds with. The teacher is wonderful. She’s very caring and does a great job coming up with interesting topics and facilitating discussion".

Ms. Judy is definitely one of the best Outschool teachers. She is very experienced and she cares deeply about kids. She covers materials that are well prepared and thought through that provoke thinking and discussion. She listens to every student and makes sure every student is included. My kid has passion and knowledge towards birds and she covers this topic so well for him and other kids who have an interest in birds from many different directions. My son has been taking this class with Ms. Judy for 2 years and he still loves it.

Judy also offers this chat group for ages 7-10. Here is a link for more information: https://outschool.com/classes/birds-nerds-an-ornithology-social-club-7-10-NIXA3upG?usid=dNC7E9pS&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link
