Wildflower Art, Poetry, & Nature Camp Part Two

This class will focus on the beauty found in our natural environment. Students will observe, draw, paint, then write poetry about wild flowers. I hope this class encourages learners to travel and get outside in nature.

Class Experience

Imagine that it's a sunny summer day and you arrive at your destination to hike with your family or friends. As you walk and talk, you are amazed by the beautiful views surrounding you. It's wildflower season and you feel compelled to stop at every turn to take pictures of the gorgeous flowers. This is what it's like when I'm hiking and I'd like to share that experience with you.

The teacher will show the students flowers from hikes she's taken in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains, along the Pacific Ocean, and in Spain. We will meet four times and make two pieces of art and write two poems inspired by photographs, student experience, and art. The students will have a chance to brainstorm ideas as a whole group and in breakout rooms, before they begin drawing, painting, and writing. I will be available to help with spelling and tips on art supply usage.

Day 1 We will look at photos of art by Georgia O'Keeffe then use watercolor and Sharpie to design a flower in a similar style.
Day 2 We will write a cinquain poem inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe flowers.
Day 3 We will look at the teacher's photos of wildflowers in Spain then use acrylic to paint red poppies.
Day 4 We will write a diamante poem inspired by our field of poppies.

Check out my other four-day wildflower camp (Part One) for more art and poetry:
