1 hour per week. Optional at-home practice will be provided. Continued practice will help students become more confident in their letter formation and handwriting.

Class Experience

In this 5 week course, young children will learn how to write all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet and numbers 0-9.  Students will also learn about the headline, midline, and baseline, line placement, and how to hold a writing utensil.  This class has a multi-sensory approach to instruction.  Students will use their bodies to form letters and numbers on the headline, midline, and baseline.  Students will write letters and numbers in the air with their finger, build letters and numbers with play dough and wiki sticks, drive the formation of letters and numbers with toy cars, and trace and write letters with writing utensils on paper.  Students will learn the formation of three to six letters and numbers each day based on that week's theme.  Optional at-home practice that focuses on the letters learned each day will be provided.

Week 1: July 31-August 3
-Letters and Numbers with Straight lines

Week 2:  August 7-10
-Letters and Numbers with Slant lines

Week 3:  August 14-17
-Letters and Numbers with Curve lines

Week 4:  August 21-24
-Letters and Numbers with Circle lines

Week 5:  August 28-31
-Review of all numbers and letters
-Using proper letter formation to write words and sentences

Learning Goals

Students will learn how to form uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet and numbers 0-9.  Students will learn about the headline, midline, and baseline of writing lines and their uses for letter formation.  Students will learn how to hold a writing utensil.

Parental Guidance
Play dough may contain wheat, which could cause an allergic reaction if ingested in those sensitive to wheat gluten or with Celiac disease.
Supply List
-Weekly printables which will be posted in the classroom tab and classroom comments area every week by Sunday afternoon

-small toy car
-pipe cleaners or wiki sticks
-dry erase marker
-Dry-erase pocket, page protector, gallon size zip close bag, or a way to laminate certain printables for use with the play doh and dry erase markers
-writing utensil (pencil, marker, crayon)
