Assessment
Students will be provided weekly feedback on class engagement and writing. Assignments will be submitted through Outschool. A letter grade will be provided on a 10 point grading scale.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
We will create nine different poems, Autobiographical, Narrative, Cinquain, Diamante, Haiku, Limerick, Question, Free Verse, and Acrostic. Skills shared will also include brainstorming, storyboards, creativity icebreakers, even a bit of improvisation. Students will also delve into the life and achievements of a famous poet. Information will be shared through discussion, slides, revising, and group work.

Each day will follow this schedule:
Welcome and overview 2-3 minutes
Poem focus of the day 35 minutes
Poem writing 5-10 minutes
Review and prepare for tomorrow 3-5 minutes

Day One: Pick a poet, improvisation icebreakers, synonyms, antonyms, rhyme scheme, syllables, poem topics
Day Two: Cinquain, Diamante, Acrostic poems
Day Three: Question, Narrative, Free verse poems
Day Four: Haiku, Limerick, storyboards
Day Five: Autobiographical poem for camper and on favorite poet

Learning Goals

Students will take a deep look into nine types of poetry and stretch their self expression and creativity. We will create nine different poems, Autobiographical, Narrative, Cinquain, Diamante, Haiku, Limerick, Question, Free Verse, and Acrostic. Skills shared will also include brainstorming, storyboards, creativity icebreakers, even a bit of improvisation. This is a five-week course to allow students to develop their use of adjectives and adverbs to create a work of art. Students will also delve into the life and achievements of a famous poet.

Supply List
Pencil, pen, scratch paper, access to a thesaurus-online version is great too.
Colored pencils, markers, or crayons.
Online access to submit assignments and to look into the lives of a chosen famous poet.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
