Context clues are used to figure out the meaning of unfamiliar words in sentences or reading text. Students will examine sentences and look for clues to help determine the definition of unknown words. The lesson will be divided into 3 main sections: discussion about using context clues, finding clues in sentences, and determining word meaning. Information will be shared on slides, through discussion, and on a provided worksheet. Welcome 3-5 minutes Description of context clues 12-16 minutes Finding clues within sentences or text 12-16 minutes Determining unfamiliar word meaning 12-16 minutes Review/Question and Answer 6-10 minutes

Please have a pen or pencil. I will provide a worksheet to accompany the class discussion. Please check back on the classroom page and the worksheet will be available to print a day or two prior to the start of the lesson.

I hold a degree in Psychology and an MBA, a 150-hour master teacher certificate for teaching English as a second language courses and have served as a college counselor for almost 5 years advising students and families on the college acceptance process. I have taught middle school, have been an academic administrator in a Pre-K 12 school and was a founding director of a Learning Center.
