Class Experience

Welcome to Swahili for Beginners 106. This is a year-long Swahili class broken down to 8 months from Swahili 101-108. 

A four weeks (twice a week) course that builds and reinforces vocabulary, reading comprehension, written and spoken language. The class is taught using power points, reading short stories and conversations in and out of class. Phonics and previous topics taught will be revisited and reviewed to build on vocabulary and communication. There is homework each week on vocabulary building, spelling, reading comprehension and spoken language using homework sheets, practice phrases, games, songs and You Tube videos. 

Week 1: Parts of the house
Day 1: Kitchen (Jikoni) Part 1
Day 2: Students will practice sentences using school supplies e.g. I draw with a pencil (Nachora na kalamu.)
Short stories that cover previous classes will be read in class. The student is expected to read aloud and converse in Swahili during class. 

Week 2: Parts of the house
Day 1: Kitchen (Jikoni) Part 2
Day 2: Students will practice sentences using school supplies e.g. I am learning Swahili (Nasoma Kiswahili.)
Short stories that cover previous classes will be read in class. The student is expected to read aloud and converse in Swahili during class.

Week 3: Parts of the house
Day 1: Living room
Day 2: Students will practice sentences using school supplies e.g. I am playing with my sister. (Nacheza na dada yangu.)
Short stories that cover previous classes will be read in class. The student is expected to read aloud and converse in Swahili during class.

Week 4: Parts of the house
Day 1: Bathroom and Bedroom
Day 2: Students will practice sentences using school supplies e.g It is raining today. (Leo kuna mvua). Short stories that cover previous classes will be read in class. The student is expected to read aloud and converse in Swahili during class.
