What's included

8 live meetings
6 hrs 40 mins in-class hours
Homework
1-2 hours per week. To support learning and reinforce key concepts, homework will be assigned after each class and is due before the next session. These assignments are designed to deepen understanding and encourage independent exploration of the material. All videos viewed during class will be shared with students for future reference and review, providing a valuable resource for reinforcing lessons at home. Additionally, an optional exit quiz will be available after each lesson. These short quizzes help students assess their understanding of the content and prepare for upcoming topics in a low-pressure format.
Letter Grade
End-of-Semester Grading Option An end-of-semester grade can be provided upon request at the beginning of the semester. To be eligible for a final grade, the student must complete all assigned homework and quizzes throughout the course.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Beginner Level
Welcome to Cell Biology.
This course provides a foundational understanding of cell biology, focusing on the structure, function, and processes of cells—the basic units of life. Students will explore both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, examine cell organelles and their roles, and learn how cells grow, divide, and interact with their environment.

Key topics include cellular organization, membrane transport, the cell cycle, and cell division (mitosis and meiosis). The course also introduces how cells form tissues, organs, and systems, bridging the gap between microscopic structures and the human body.

Through hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and real-world applications, students will develop a strong scientific foundation and critical thinking skills essential for further studies in biology, medicine, or life sciences.

Syllabus

8 Lessons
over 8 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Prokaryotic Cells
In this introductory week, students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of cell biology, including the basic unit of life—the cell. We will focus on prokaryotic cells, examining their structure, function, and differences from eukaryotic cells. Topics include the plasma membrane, cytoplasm, nucleoid region, ribosomes, and flagella. Students will also explore examples of prokaryotic organisms such as bacteria and archaea, and their roles in both beneficial and harmful environments.

Lesson 2:
Eukaryotic Cells
This week focuses on eukaryotic cells, which are more complex and contain membrane-bound organelles. Students will learn about the major components of eukaryotic cells, including the nucleus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and lysosomes. Differences between animal and plant cells will also be explored, emphasizing cellular specialization and how these cells function together within multicellular organisms.

Lesson 3:
Cell Organelles 1
Over three weeks, students will delve deeper into studying cell organelles and their respective roles in maintaining cell function. Topics will include:

Nucleus and Genetic Material
Study the structure and function of the nucleus, including the role of DNA, the nuclear envelope, and the nucleolus. Students will learn about gene expression, transcription, and translation processes.
50 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Cell Organelles 2
 Mitochondria, Chloroplasts, and Energy Production
Exploration of how mitochondria and chloroplasts are involved in energy production and cellular respiration. We will also cover the endosymbiotic theory and how these organelles evolved.
