Class Experience

What will be taught?

In this course, I will teach Swahili basics, including greetings, introductions, numbers, telling time, family vocabulary, food and drink words, animals, and nature-related terms. I will also guide students in constructing simple sentences and engaging in basic conversations in Swahili.

 How is the class structure?

(1 to 4 students, but flexible age group and number of people can be accommodated into a different section. You can also book your own learning style like self-paced or one-on-one.)

The class structure is flexible. I can accommodate between 1 to 4 students in a session, but if there’s a larger group or a specific learning preference, I can adjust the structure accordingly. Students of different ages can be grouped based on their proficiency, and I offer options for one-on-one sessions or self-paced learning.

If you prefer to work at your own pace, I can design a curriculum that fits your individual needs, and we can schedule sessions that are convenient for you.

How will your teaching be realistic to attract learners?

I aim to create an engaging and interactive learning environment where students feel comfortable practicing and experimenting with the language. I’ll incorporate real-world scenarios, use interactive games, fun discussions, and multimedia resources like videos and slides. By making the lessons practical and relatable, I believe students will feel motivated and excited to learn Swahili.

What’s your favorite style of teaching?

My favorite style of teaching is hands-on and student-centered. I enjoy using interactive methods such as role-playing, games, and real-life conversation practice. This way, learners can apply what they’ve learned immediately and feel more confident in their skills. I also enjoy mixing in multimedia like videos and visuals to keep things dynamic.

How much will learners get to interact with you? (Lectures, games, slides, videos, or discussions?)

Learners will get plenty of opportunities to interact with me. I’ll include a combination of lectures, games, and group discussions. Each week, there will be opportunities for students to practice speaking, ask questions, and participate in guided activities.

I’ll also use slides and videos to explain concepts and ensure learners engage with the material in a visual and dynamic way.

Learning Goals

Students will be able to introduce themselves and greet others in Swahili confidently.
They will have the ability to engage in simple conversations, ask questions, and describe people, places, and things in Swahili.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a native Swahili speaker with years of experience teaching the language, I bring both expertise and a deep passion for sharing my knowledge. I have taught Swahili to students of various ages and backgrounds, and I enjoy making the language fun, engaging, and easy to learn.

I believe that teaching is not just about explaining grammar rules or vocabulary, but about inspiring students to connect with the language in a meaningful way. I bring real-life examples into the lessons, making sure that students can relate the language to their daily lives. I also strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable practicing and making mistakes.

In addition to my experience teaching Swahili, I am skilled at adjusting my teaching style to match each student’s needs. Whether it's one-on-one lessons or small group sessions, I focus on building confidence and helping each student progress at their own pace. My goal is to make learning Swahili an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

I am passionate about the culture behind the language as well, and I incorporate stories, traditions, and fun facts into the lessons to give students a deeper understanding of Swahili-speaking countries. This helps students not only learn the language but also appreciate the culture and history tied to it.
