What are the different branches of marine science? How are these branches studied and why do they matter to our lives? These will be the questions driving the course content during our time in class. Each class will follow a similar format to the following: Part 1: Discussion question on the weekly topic to access learner's prior knowledge. Part 2: Content exploration through discussion and multi-media presentation. Part 3: Concept review and student assessment using techniques such as, but not limited to: short answer description, identification, student created products and games. Below are the topics, in order, that will be used to anchor weekly material beginning in January 2021: FALL 2021 SCHEDULE Week 1: Careers in Marine Science Week 2: Shark Tracking and Research Week 3: Marine Biomedical Research Week 4: Marine Materials Week 5: Polar Ecosystems Week 6: Hurricanes Week 7: Beach Formation Week 8: Deep Sea Life and Research Week 9: Climate Change and Coral Super Growth Week 10: Red Tide and the Glowing Ocean Week 11: Maritime Mythology Week 12: Venomous Marine Life Week 13: Marine Life as Food Week 14: Oceanic Archeology Week 15: Prehistoric Marine Life
Learning Goals
At the end of each class period learners will be able to:
