US Grade 5 - 8
This class is all about plankton, microscopic organisms within our ocean waters. Through an interactive presentation and class discussion, students will explore plankton's roll in the food chain and the health of our planet. We will cover topics such as the ability of some species to create bioluminescence and "Red Tide" and the affects these have on human life. Students can participate in a Plankton Design Challenge. The objective is to design and create a plankton that will sink slowly but not float in a 5 gallon bucket of water. Example Materials Needed: cork, pipe cleaners, tape, ribbon, pennies, tooth picks, sponges

"Plankton Design Challenge" requires a small variety of house hold items, examples include: cork, pipe cleaners, tape, ribbon, pennies, tooth picks and sponges.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
