Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will have weekly web quests and discussion questions posted to the classroom 1 week prior to the beginning of each live class.
Assessment
Students will be assessed using weekly quizzes posted in Google Classroom (40 points), weekly discussion board participation (20 points) and Unit Exit Summary (40 points) Weekly instructor feed back will be submitted to students via the Outschool messaging app. The rubric for the summary will be posted upon class enrollment. Homework for the course can be completed with feedback up to one month after the course is completed.

Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Together learners will explore the basic concepts of marine ecology.   Concepts in this course provide a foundation for the following marine ecology units: Coral Reef Connections, Estuary Expeditions and Open Ocean Life Top to Bottom

Each week students will be assigned a web quest and online classroom discussion to serve as a leaping point for live class discussion and concept exploration.  Class time will include a combination of ppt presentations, student collaboration and concept application.  Weekly web quests and discussion questions will be posted one week before live class time is scheduled.
Learning Goals
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 

-Trace energy and nutrient flow with marine ecosystems.
-Describe marine species interactions.
-Generate a diagram and profile of the major ocean basins.
-Explain the effects of physical  environmental changes on marine organisms including: wave action, salinity and temperature.
-Describe vertical zonation with in marine ecosystems.
