Description

Class Experience

Upon completion of this lesson students will be able to:
-identify the structures of a nematocyst (or stinging cell).
-explain how the reproductive cycle of some jellyfish is different from other organisms.
-identify different species of jellyfish and where they can be found in nature. 
-identify "urban legends" and facts about jellyfish stings and treatment.  
I strive to create learner-centered, integrated lessons that relate content to students’ lives.  I believe that my educational background in the field of marine science, professional teaching degree and extensive experiencing developing/delivering educational programs for all ages, will generate a class experience that fosters learners' appreciation for our oceans and environment. A one-page notes handout will be provided 24 hours before the start of class. Answer keys to self-assessments will be provided after course completion.  
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Student's learning will be assessed via formative assessment during classroom discussion.  Student's will be provided with an optional self-assessment upon completion of the class. 
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
