** Now updated to include reading comprehension stories each week!** One of the best ways to succeed in school is to improve reading skills... want to know how? Phonics! When phonics is taught systematically, as in this class, students gain confidence as their ability to sound out words increases. With an increased knowledge of phonics, students increase the speed of sound to symbol recognition. Then students are able to apply their new skills to read new words which encourages them to experience new vocabulary. In each class, I will introduce students to new phonograms. Then, we will practice the phonograms in words and sentences. Students will interact with their classmates as they brainstorm words with the phonograms to complete graphic organizers. We will have fun playing games to practice what we have learned. I will provide an encouraging environment where students can share their opinions and reach their potential. This class is for students who are familiar with the letters A-Z and the single letter sounds. In this class, we will move beyond single letter sounds to multi-letter phonograms and help solve the mystery of "sounding out words". Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Blue Mountain University
Hi! My name is Andrea and I love teaching! I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary education which I have used in many different environments, from elementary and special education classrooms to homeschooling my own three children. I have spent time teaching and volunteering at homeschool co-op groups. Currently I am teaching ESL in an online classroom. Regardless of the classroom format, I enjoy helping children learn and reach their full potential!
Your student will have fun learning in my classroom! I enjoy teaching with lots of interactive games and teamwork! We will work on important foundational skills in my favorite subjects; reading and language arts. I want to help your student to become an independent learner by asking thoughtful questions and finding creative solutions.
When I am not teaching, I am spending time with my husband and three children ages 14, 11, and 9. We love to read together, take walks, and play soccer.
