Want to improve your spelling skills? Phonics is the answer! When phonics is taught systematically, as in this class, students gain confidence as their ability to sound out words increases. With an increased knowledge of phonics, students increase the speed of sound to symbol recognition. Then students are able to apply their new skills to understand how words are spelled. In each class, I will introduce students to new phonograms. Then, we will practice the phonograms in spelling activities. Students will interact with their classmates as they practice spelling together. We will have fun playing games to review what we have learned. I will provide an encouraging environment where students can share their opinions and reach their potential. This class is for students who are familiar with the letters A-Z and the single letter sounds. In this class, we will move beyond single letter sounds to multi-letter phonograms to develop an understanding of how words are spelled. This class can be taken alone for spelling practice, but it is also a great companion to "Phonics in Focus: Increase Your Reading Skills Through Advanced Phonics". Students who prefer two classes a week can take both classes for practice with reading and spelling the phonograms each week. The following is a list of the phonograms that will be covered each week: Week of Nov 11: ow, tch Week of Nov 18: y Week of Nov 25: kn, gn Week of Dec 2: ir, ur Week of Dec 9: ear Week of Dec 16: ck, ee Week of Dec 23: ed Week of Dec 30: ui, ew Week of Jan 6: ng, th Week of Jan 13: er, or Week of Jan 20: ea, sh Week of Jan 27: oi, oy Week of Feb 3: ar, ch Week of Feb 10: oa, oe Week of Feb 17: ai, ay Week of Feb 24: igh, wh Week of Mar 3: au, aw Week of Mar 10: augh, qu Week of Mar 17: ou

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Blue Mountain University
Hi! My name is Andrea and I love teaching! I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary education which I have used in many different environments, from elementary and special education classrooms to homeschooling my own three children. I have spent time teaching and volunteering at homeschool co-op groups. Currently I am teaching ESL in an online classroom. Regardless of the classroom format, I enjoy helping children learn and reach their full potential!
Your student will have fun learning in my classroom! I enjoy teaching with lots of interactive games and teamwork! We will work on important foundational skills in my favorite subjects; reading and language arts. I want to help your student to become an independent learner by asking thoughtful questions and finding creative solutions.
When I am not teaching, I am spending time with my husband and three children ages 14, 11, and 9. We love to read together, take walks, and play soccer.
