Homework
There is no required work for this class but at times some handouts can be done in between classes if your child is enrolled for more than 1 of the classes. The material can build as we go through topics.

Class Experience

In this 1:1, I meet with students individually we define what Positive Self talk is and complete a Social Emotional Handout together. Each week there is a new topic building on the goal of Developing and maintaining a healthy Self Esteem. Some of the Weekly topics include:

*Positive Self Talk: How do we say positive things about ourselves and where can I add it?

*Negative Self Talk: Quieting the Bully in your brain- How negative thoughts, needing to be perfect, feeling like failing can affect how we see ourselves.

*Being your own best friend: Changing the script and perspective- What would you say to your best friend?

*Connection: How are our feelings connected to our behavior?- Learning how we can feel more positive and do more positive things!

After enrollment I will reach out and find out a little more about your child. If you believe your child needs one of these topics more than the other then that is where I will focus and build the curriculum around that.

** If you enroll in 4 weeks or more we can dig deep in each of these topics and I can personalize the My Positive Self curriculum for your child.

I send out the outline the day before your child attends each class so any handouts can be printed if needed and materials can be looked over. If there are any questions I try to make myself as available as possible.

Below is an example of an outline for a Positive self class:

Estimated Outline for your child’s 1:1 on May 6th at 7:00 pm-7:30 pm

(times are estimates only and this is used as a guideline)

*7:00pm-7:05 — Brief Introductions Tell me a little about yourself- Allows for your student to tell me a few things about them and I can introduce myself to them. I usually will do a few ice breakers like Would you rathers’ or What if’s that can be fun to break the nerves.

*7:05 pm-7:15 (Activity #1)- Handout on 5 Whys- This activity helps us understand the “root” cause of some of our negative thoughts and why it is important and helpful to identify this. By asking ourselves “Why” 5 times we can understand if this thought is based on fact or fiction (real or fake).

*7:15 pm- 7:28pm(Activity #2) - Negative Thoughts into Positive Phrases- Introducing the concept of negative self-talk and its impact on our moods. We will go over this together and learn how to reframe some negative thoughts.

*7:28 pm-7:30 pm Wrap up for Today/ Questions! (Sometimes we can go over 2-3 minutes if there are specific questions. Students will always get to ask a wrap up question)

Parental Guidance
I am a licensed clinician however I am facilitating material in an educational model and will not be providing therapeutic services to your student. These workshops are not intended as a substitute for Mental Health Services nor does this program provide psychotherapy or mental health group therapy. Upon starting any program I teach, students are given clear guidelines as to what we can share and what is appropriate in this platform. If a student shares private mental health information and it is non-emergency, I will remind the student of the privacy rule and inform the guardians. If a child discloses information that indicates they may be unsafe towards themselves or others, I will inform the guardians and Out-school Safety with this information. I also have an obligation as a mandated reporter to make a report with child services. These workshops are intended to be used as informative, preventive and instructional tools to help our children grow and meet their social emotional milestones in the most successful way!
Supply List
NO materials are required. If any materials are needed like crayons, writing materials, paper...
I will always let parents/guardians know before the class by posting in the classroom. Also the materials are always if the student would LIKE to color the sheet or participate in the given activity, it is never a requirement.
