Description
Class Experience
Students will learn about mindfulness, practice deep breathing techniques, and create a glitter jar in order to help them to be able to manage stressful situations by calming themselves.
As a school social worker, I have been working with students in preschool through 8th grade for 14 years on topics such as coping skills, identifying emotions, and practicing mindfulness.
Students will need: A sturdy empty 16 ounce plastic bottle with a lid (for example, an empty water bottle) 1/2 cup of clear glue 1-2 teaspoons of glitter (color of your choice) Measuring cups (1/2 cup and 1 teaspoon) Distilled water preferred, but can use tap water (distilled water will keep the glitter jar mold-free) Food coloring of your choice (optional) A snack of your choice that can be eaten in small bites (for example, raisins, m&m's, skittles, etc)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
