Mathematicians at Work! Solving Equations and Graphing Inequalities (FLEX)
Class experience
US Grade 4 - 7
Success in high school courses such as Algebra, Geometry, and Physics can be achieved by building a strong foundation of math in the younger years. This flex version of my Pre-Algebra class will provide students with instruction on solving and graphing equations and inequalities, as well as the prerequisite skills (order of operations, math properties, simplifying expressions) needed to master equations and inequalities. There will be eight lessons total, with lessons posted on Sunday by 12...
The objectives we will cover are: -choosing appropriate methods of computations -using order of operations to simplify expressions -evaluating algebraic expressions -using mathematical properties to simplify algebraic expressions -using inverse operations to solve equations and inequalities -graphing on number lines and coordinate grids to explore relationships between expressions
I LOVE math! I love finding creative and interesting ways to deliver instruction while helping students build their math sense. After 25 years of teaching Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2 to students with a variety of skill levels, including 5 years teaching online to students learning from home, I feel uniquely qualified to provide learners with the tools they need to become masters of mathematics!
Homework Offered
Because this is a flex class, the "homework" will be for students to complete all activities in the lesson prior to the release of the subsequent lessons. Since practice makes perfect, an additional 10-20 minutes daily should be spent reviewing the notes taken from each of the lessons- this will help keep the skills fresh for each upcoming topic.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Feedback will be provided for the discussion questions. The submitted work and quizzes that students will complete, either Quizizz or the PDF, will be graded, and that grade will be shared with the individual student via messaging.Grades Offered
Students should have a 3-ring binder or some type of math notebook in order to keep track of their notes.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
