US Grade 4 - 7
Math is an amazing subject! In this course, lessons have been designed with tutorial and engaging activities to help the student build a strong foundation for higher level courses! I provide the notes, examples, activities and directions needed to seamlessly follow through each lesson. The student should take notes as they move through the lessons as this will help better understand the examples and enrichment activities. I am happy to respond to any questions that may be posted, typically within 24 hours. There will be twelve lessons total, with each lesson being posted on Sundays by 12 noon (Eastern Standard Time) for those who select weekly lessons. The goal will be for students to try and complete the entire lesson prior to the release of the next lesson. By the conclusion of this class students should have a better understanding of how to solve algebra-related problems, and how to think critically to solve problems.
Learning Goals
expand knowledge of perfect squares and square roots to simplify expressions
use inverse operations to solve one-step and two-step equations and inequalities
Syllabus

Supply List
The student should have a three-ring binder in order to keep track of assignments and notes. A link at the bottom of the PDF attachment will take the student to the lesson (objective, discussion, video, practice, optional assessment). A calculator and graph paper would be nice items to have, but are not mandatory.
External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from University of Maryland, Baltimore County
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics as well as a Master's Degree in Education. With 20 years of experience teaching in the classroom coupled with 5 years of experience teaching online to students with varying abilities and needs, I feel extremely qualified to deliver this instruction to learners via Outschool. My love and dedication for Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 stems from the knowledge that this is such a critical time for students to make the connections of elementary-level mathematics to higher-level thinking that will be key for success in courses such as Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry or Pre-Calculus (just to name a few).
