What's included

12 pre-recorded lessons
12 weeks
of teacher support
1 year access

Homework
1 hour per week. Students will be provided with an assignment each week to complete, focusing on the topic that was covered. They will complete this assignment independently so that the feedback provided is reflective of the individual's work. The time spent to complete homework could range from 10 minutes - 30 minutes, depending on the assignment.
Assessment
An assessment will be provided with each lesson. Students that submit the assessment will receive a grade for the assignment, as well as feedback on the work, and opportunities to make corrections if needed.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Students will be provided with a mini-tutorial via self-created videos reviewing one skill a week for the Algebra 2 topics listed in the syllabus. I will provide also provide examples that students can practice throughout the week (answer keys will be provided), and an assessment will be provided weekly to determine mastery of that week's skill. A variety of activities will also be included in the lessons- some examples include using math emoji puzzles to strengthen skills with solving equations, decoder puzzles to review skills with integer operations, and using 24 cards to practice order of operations.

Although we will not be meeting live, I will provide students with the notes, examples, activities and directions needed to seamlessly follow through each lesson. Students will be encouraged to take notes as they move through the lessons as this will help them understand the examples and complete the puzzles, and I will respond to any questions that may be posted via Outschool messages. There will be twelve lessons total, with each lesson being posted on Sundays by 12 noon (Eastern Standard Time) for families opting for weekly lessons. The goal will be for students to try and complete the entire lesson prior to the release of the next lesson.

By the conclusion of this course, students should have a better understanding of how to solve algebra-related problems, and how to think critically to solve problems.
Learning Goals
In this course, students will:

-develop problem solving skills in order to solve real-world problems
-develop number sense with integers and rational numbers
-use inverse operations to solve/graph multi-step equations and inequalities
-add, subtract and multiply with matrices
-add, subtract, and multiply monomials and polynomials
-examine a variety of methods to solve quadratic equations
-use formulas to calculate the midpoint and distance of two points
-use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the missing sides of a right triangles
-combine like terms in order to perform operations with polynomials
-use measures of central tendency to describe data sets
-find the probability of simple events
-use trigonometric ratios to find missing measurements of a triangle

Supply List
Students should have a three-ring binder in order to keep track of assignments and notes each week. I will provide a PDF via Outschool messages that will explain to students what needs to be for the week (objective, discussion question, video, practice and assessment). A calculator and graph paper would be nice items to have, however, when possible, I will suggest websites that may have the tools that a learner may need (example: online calculators).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from University of Maryland, Baltimore County
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics as well as a Master's Degree in Education. With 20 years of experience teaching in the classroom coupled with 5 years of experience teaching online to students with varying abilities and needs, I feel extremely qualified to deliver this instruction to learners via Outschool. My love and dedication for Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 & 2 stems from the knowledge that this is such a critical time for students to make the connections of elementary-level mathematics to higher-level thinking that will be key for success in courses such as Pre-Calculus, Calculus or Statistics.
