US Grade Pre-Kindergarten
In this class, the student will build their number sense and number literacy. This is a beginner level class. This class is paced slowly. The exercises will be repetitive. This helps with retaining information. Each week the students will focus on a different concept area. We will start with counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's. We will use several different strategies. We will use a hundreds chart to help with this concept. While we learn 1-1 counting, the student will need something in front of them to count. I like to use mini-erasers! We will also focus on adding and subtracting up to 20. One of the classes will focus on how to read a calendar. We will discuss what a calendar helps us learn. We will also practice grouping and number recognition.

Supply List
For certain weeks, the learner will need something to count. They will need at least 30 of these objects. They can use counting cubes, mini erasers, or pom poms. You can get any of these things at target or walmart. There will also be a hand out for the first classes. This will be posted in the classroom the week before class begins.

Hello! I am Mrs. Holstine and I teach early childhood classes.
I teach Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies for Elementary aged students. I have taught in a formal classroom for the last five years. Two of those years were spent with first graders and the rest were spent with kindergarten kids.
I believe that kids learn best when they are interested in the subject matter. I like to get to know the students personally before jumping into a lesson. I like to relate the lesson back to their personal lives to keep the student engaged.
