US Grade Kindergarten - 1
In this week long class, learners will practice reading decodable books that feature short vowel (CVC) words. Decodable books or texts include words that feature a specific phonics skills or syllable pattern. This allows learners to be able to read most of the words since they have been taught that skill. This class is great for students in middle/late Kindergarten or early First grade. Students need to be able to identify all letters of the alphabet and their sounds before taking this class. Students should have some exposure reading short vowel words such as: cat, log, fox, van, etc. Each week students will receive a book to print that they can read along in class. If you do not have access to a printer, that is ok. The decodable text will be shared on the screen to read. Sample Class Structure: 1. Letter Sound Warm up 2. Reading Short Vowel words in isolation warmup (students will practice blending letters in words to read, ex: b-a-t -> bat) 3. Read Decodable Book
Learning Goals
Students will improve their ability to read words and sentences that have short vowel (CVC) sounds.
