Dogs and Donuts Phonics Fun! Intro to Reading CVC Words
Class experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 1
**Please note, it is important that before taking this class your child knows his or her letter sounds. Join me in this one time class where I will read If You Give a Dog a Donut by Laura Numeroff, while your child will be encouraged to read the repetitive phrases along with me! Before reading, we will discuss the parts of a book. Next we will practice short vowel sounds with CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words while students follow along with an optional printout that I will send out...
Students will learn how to combine letter sounds to make simple CVC words. Students will learn about the parts of a book. Students will practice pre-reading skills such as reading from left to right and top to bottom. Students will understand words represent a spoken word and convey a message. Students will answer simple questions about the story. Students will describe elements in a story, for example, characters and/or setting (time, place, and/or environment).
Homework Offered
Learners can continue to practice reading the CVC words using the optional printable I will send out before class. They can even make their own donut CVC words if they would like.Assessments Offered
