In this ongoing class, your child will practice reading and writing short vowel (CVC) words. Each week we will focus on reviewing one short vowel and reading/writing words with that short vowel.

Class Experience

In this ongoing class, your child will learn to read and word short vowel (CVC, Closed Syllable) words. We will focus on reading and spelling short vowel words (CVC) in this class through a Orton-Gillingham approach. Each week will focus on a different short vowel or word family. Students will be able to practice to reading and writing short vowel words through writing words, reading decodable books, phonics bingo, and other engaging activities. Your child can join this ongoing class at any point. Paper for writing words will be sent to families before each class. 

This class is great for learners who are in Kindergarten, First Grade or who have dyslexia. Your child should be able to recognize most letters of the alphabet and sounds. Examples of words your child will be learning to read include: cat, shop, frog, pet, hug, flip

Sample Class Structure:
1. Letter Sound Warm up
2. Short Vowel Warm up
3. Segmenting and Blending Practice (learners will practice saying the sounds in a short vowel words and blending the sounds together)
4. Dictation practice - Learners will practice sounding out and writing short vowel words
5. Phonics activity/game

Week of 10/9:  Short o words
Week of 10/16: Short i words
Week of 10/23 Short u words
Week of 10/20: Short e words
