Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this ongoing course I will focus on the common sight words taught in English schools as well words from the Oxford 3000 most important English words. Every lesson will include all four modalities of English - reading, writing, listening, and speaking. All learners are welcome! This is an ESL/ELL friendly course.

Every word will be taught along with its meaning, pronunciation, and part of speech using visuals, TPR, games, songs, etc. Students will learn to recognize and write the sight words alone and in sentences. Students will learn to decode words from the Oxford 3000 and put them into sentences while learning the basic rules of English sentence structure and how to form expanded sentences.

Lessons will also include grammar such as past tense verbs, adjectives, conjunctions, prepositions, and punctuation.

Lessons are aligned with the Ohio State Standards for English Language Proficiency and are based on the Fry Words First Thousand and the Oxford 3000 most important English words and the Science of Reading.

Each week new words will be introduced, and previous words will continually be reviewed. It takes many exposures to a word before it becomes truly known. Every 5-6 weeks will be a review week, no new words will be taught during this week, but all words from the previous 4-5 lessons will be reviewed.

In each lesson we will practice reading and pronouncing the words while learning their meaning before putting them into sentences. Students will also have the opportunity to practice writing the words.

Upcoming Lessons:

January 8: Words: a, the, boy, girl, one, his, her, see

January 15: ball, big, and, two, bird

January 22: (Prepositions) on, in, three, over, under, above, below
