Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this class young beginner ESL students will develop listening, speaking, vocabulary, reading, and comprehension skills through read-alouds, short videos, and more.

I will read the books to the students and there will be discussion during the story to develop comprehension and check for understanding. Other activities will vary based on the week's book and the words we are focusing on. This class is taught completely in English so there will be some words your child be unfamiliar with, but each week I will focus on teaching words from the books we read.

Students are encouraged to speak during the class but is not required. We will often pause during reading to talk about the story or the pictures in the book. There will also be opportunities for the students to read a few words and/or sentences after the story.

Each week I will introduce one new book and will read 1 or 2 books from previous lessons. It takes multiple exposures to a word for children to really learn it, and I've found that most children like to hear stories they are familiar with.

Some lessons will also include short videos, drawing, games, and writing if the child is able. Parents will be sent a summary of what words we covered in the class, the books read, and a note about how the child performed.
