Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 6
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Discover the microscopic world that shapes all living things in this engaging 8-week course for 5th graders! Students will explore the fascinating structure and function of cells, the foundation of life on Earth. Through videos, activities, projects, and lessons, they will learn about the cell theory, compare plant and animal cells, and investigate how cells work together to form tissues and organs.

The course also dives into the world of bacteria and viruses, uncovering their roles in health and disease. From observing cells under a microscope to viewing and creating models, students will develop a deeper understanding of how life operates at its smallest level. By the end of the course, they’ll be equipped with scientific knowledge and critical thinking skills to explore the connections between cells, organisms, and the broader world around them.

Please see the course syllables for more details on the topics covered in this course.

Learning Goals

Define what a cell is and explain why it is considered the basic unit of life.
Describe the principles of the cell theory and its historical development.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Ms. Mari. I am currently attending college to earn a bachelor's degree in Middle Childhood Math and Science with TESOL certification. I have one more class until I receive my TESOL certification and about 2 years of college left before I have my teaching license. I have been working with children of all ages for almost 20 years and have 10 years of classroom and tutoring experience. I teach a variety of lessons for elementary and middle school students and offer private or group tutoring sessions in math, science, writing and TESOL/ESL/ELL. My favorite things to teach are geometry, pre-algebra and anything that has to with space and the planets. I can't wait to meet you and your student!
