Focused Note Taking on 5 Different Styles - Digital and Handwritten

Annotating and reflecting on notes repeatedly results in 90-100% retention. Scholars will first practice using multiple styles of note taking with different mediums to learn when to use each style and identify their preferred style.

What's included

1 live meeting
1 hrs 30 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. I strongly encourage scholars to review and annotate the notes we took on their own after the class as we won't have enough time to do so during class.

Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
This is more than a standard note taking class. Learning the value of taking notes and developing the skills to do so effectively is just the foundation. Without reviewing and reflecting on the notes, note taking is pointless as it will have little to no effect on retention.

The styles of note taking we'll cover are
- Venn Diagrams
- Mind Maps
- Outlines
- Three column notes
- Cornell Notes

Scholars will be given a digital packet that covers all of the information they need for note-taking. We will cover most of it in class and they'll have it to review and use as needed. The can use the digital templates to take notes digitally if they prefer to use a computer and/or by hand which is great for visual and kinesthetic learners.

We will take notes on how to take notes thus scholars will practice taking notes while repeatedly reviewing the information. This will give them multiple exposures in a short amount of time and allow me to check their understanding and guide them as needed. Scholars can share what information they wrote, allowing them to explain their reasoning which may benefit other students in the class.

Scholars will learn the importance of reviewing and annotating the notes they wrote by
- answering any questions they have
- creating questions if they're confused or need more information
- defining unknown terms
- drawing visuals for the information
- summarizing their notes
- adding any thoughts or opinions about the topic
Learning Goals
Scholars will learn multiple ways to take notes using digital and analog methods. They'll understand when to use each style of note taking and how to review, process and reflect on their notes to strengthen their understanding and retention.
