This follow up course gives scholars the opportunity to receive feedback on the notes they've taken and their implementation of the strategies they learned in the Focused Note Taking course. Great review if they have an upcoming test.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Scholars have the opportunity to work one-on-one with me as they annotate, review and reflect on their notes. They can also send notes for me to review and give them feedback on or test their knowledge of the notes to see if they're successfully using the focused note taking strategies. Without reviewing and reflecting on the notes, note taking is pointless as it will have little to no effect on their retention.

Scholars will
- present the notes they took
- inform me of any confusion or challenges they had while taking the notes or reviewing them
- annotate the notes by highlighting, underlining, circling, etc. the most important information, striking through any misinformation and adding new and relevant information as needed
- create questions about the topic that they can then research to answer
- draw visuals for the information
- make connections between their personal lives or other topics they're familiar to gain a deeper understanding
- summarize their notes in their own words to show their understanding

The 5 note taking styles they can submit for review are
- Venn Diagrams
- Mindmaps
- Outlines
- Two or three column notes
- Cornell Notes

This course is student led, so they'll decide what assistance they need and how they want me to help them.

This may include me
- correcting any formatting errors they have based on the style of notes and helping them correctly format for that style
- reading their notes, pointing out any missing information, asking them to clarify anything I find confusing, asking them to define terms and more
- showing them how to master note taking by paraphrasing and using symbols and abbreviations. This will help them spend less time writing and more time listening to the information
- teaching them how to chunk information so they can focus on separate parts one at a time
- asking leading questions to help them reflect more deeply and gain a fuller understanding of the material instead of surface level understanding
- helping them create a note review schedule for themselves based on studies that show how to retain 90-100% of the information
Learning Goals
Scholars will gain confidence in their focused note taking abilities.
