Class Experience

Class will begin with a brief discussion to assess what the students already know about college fees and options to pay for college. This class will be most beneficial to students who have some knowledge of college, how many years it takes to complete and how expensive it may be, but that is not required. For those who would like to learn more about college before looking for scholarships, I'd suggest they take my "Everything You Need to Know and Do To Pick The Right Major" class.

In class, I'll lecture and we'll discuss the difference between grants, loans, and scholarships and go over the pros and cons of each. We'll look at websites and organizations that list scholarships the students can apply for now, they'll learn how to determine their eligibility and we'll discuss the essays they'll need to write for their applications. Most scholarships are for currently enrolled college students or high school seniors, but there are plenty of scholarships available to younger students. After I've completed instruction, students will spend time searching through scholarships and checking their eligibility. They'll record the scholarships they're eligible for and apply at a later date outside of class once their application is complete. Class will end after I've advised them on how to proceed with their applications.
Learning Goals
At the end of class, students will have resources to help them continue searching and applying for scholarships on their own. They'll also have information about how grants and loans can help them pay for college.
