Class Experience

Students will be taught academic strategies that note-taking skills that can be used in current and college academic environments. This course will also cover how to follow-up with the information with study methods that support retention and engagement with the information that was provided.

In this virtual class, I will begin the class with an introduction, housekeeping rules, and logistical information. I then move into a short icebreaker to help students begin to mentally engage in the class. This activity is also intended to help students make connections to others in the class. Afterwards, I will share the objectives of the class.

When teaching on a subject, I begin with a brief lecture to give context to the topic and spend time on how it can be applied. I spend time going over various examples and allowing students to share how they would engage. I also allow time for students to work on the application as a way to identify successes and challenges. This will inform me on how to move forward with the class. In my teaching style, I take a very student-centered approach and I am willing to be flexible with student needs.

In this class because we will be covering note-taking, active learning strategies, and study methods, I will provide multiple methods to allow students to identify what works for them. I share information using PowerPoint slides. If there are worksheets or guides that will be needed for the class, I will provide those via the virtual chat.

There will be times in my course where a breakout room or group activity may be used to allow students the opportunity to learn more from each other.

At the end of my course, I allow time for reflection guided by prompts. After class is dismissed, I will stay on for questions.
