This course is suitable as a stand alone course, but also as a follow-on class from: Flight School 101 - Get Ready for Takeoff - Gaining a Licence to Fly! https://outschool.com/classes/flight-school-101-get-ready-for-takeoff-gaining-a-licence-to-fly-kY82UChQ ------------------------------------------------------------------ This course on pilot safety introduces learners to fundamental concepts of aviation safety, focusing on age-appropriate information, videos, images and interactive activities. Through engaging lessons and practical exercises, the course empowers learners to recognize potential risks, understand basic safety protocols, and develop a responsible mindset when it comes to aircraft safety. > Session 1: Introduction to Aviation Safety This class gives a general overview of the significance of aviation safety and its impact on the overall well-being of passengers, crew, and aircraft. The class will explain the importance of pre-flight checks, thorough weather analysis, proper maintenance procedures, regular pilot training, and the need to adhere to airspace regulations. Learners will be able to identify common causes of aviation accidents and incidents and analyze their implications on flight safety. *Please note all discussion will use age-appropriate examples. > Session 2: At Altitude Learners will understand the reasons behind disorientation in flight when flying through clouds and discuss some of the common visual illusions that pilots might experience, including the Leans, Graveyard Spiral, False Horizon, Autokinesis and Flicker Vertigo Learners will recognize the importance of instruments and training in maintaining spatial awareness during such situations. > Session 3: Am I Fit to Fly? This class investigates the role of fatigue, stress, and other physiological factors in aviation safety and the importance of pilot well-being. We discuss how a pilot's physical and mental state plays a critical role in ensuring safe flights and preventing accidents, and we will learn about the importance of adequate rest and the potential consequences of sleep deprivation on pilot performance, such as impaired judgment, slower reaction times, and decreased situational awareness. > Session 4: Weather! Learners will explore the dangers of flying a light aircraft in adverse weather conditions and what to do if faced by limited emergency landing options. Collaboration in the classroom is warmly encouraged. Whilst most of my classes do not require student video to be on, this class is best delivered with video and sound participation. If this would be a problem for your child, then please do reach out to me via the Outschool messaging system.
