Class Experience

Do you love delicious fried pickles? Here's a chance to learn how to make them at home! In this one time class we'll create our own fried pickles and a delicious spicy remoulade to dip them in! In this class we'll start with a short introduction of all learners, review materials and ingredients, then dive into the recipe. During class I'll be actively making, instructing, and demonstrating as students progress with me. There will be ample opportunities for questions or comments during class. In this class your student will learn how to dredge items for frying, how to tell if your oil is hot enough, how to shallow fry, and how to best drain fried foods to keep them crisp. All fried foods are best eaten right away, so I would encourage you to have friends and family ready to snack on these at the end of class! They're delicious! No previous experience needed, but a basic knowledge of stovetop usage and kitchen utensils is helpful!
Allergen warning: The recipes used during this course may contain wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, etc
Parental Guidance: During class we will be shallow frying on a hot stovetop, some students may need direct supervision depending on skillset and experience.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! My name is Mary and I'm a professionally trained chef with experience in restaurants, country clubs, catering, and institutional cooking. I love to train young chefs in the "hows" and "whys" of cooking so every meal will be delicious! I thoroughly believe in hand on instruction, for cooking there is no other way. There is a ton of math, science, and creativity involved in cooking, so I try to feature those elements as well whenever I can.
My sister is a teacher and I have learned a lot of good tips and tricks for introducing a love of literacy to young children! I enjoy reading aloud to my family and like to offer classes that involve reading and snacking!
I enjoy having inquisitive learners in my classes, you will not find a class that's all PowerPoint or an all mute class from me. I love for students to ask questions, be curious, and make comments. I love to eat, travel, read, laugh, and spend time with my kids and family. I also am passionate about arts and crafts and love to get messy once in a while with glitter!
If you have a child that's passionate about culinary arts please message me about one-on-one cooking lessons and/or sessions. I can also do private birthday parties where we can cook or bake together.
