2-4 hours per week. Homework will be a review of the concepts given in class. It will be given at the end of each class and will be expected to be completed by the next class. If the student turns it in at least an hour before class, it will be graded and returned before class starts. Review will happen in the classroom if many students didn't understand the concept and a reteach needs to happen or there is a specific question.Assessment
At the end of each chapter there will be a review of the concepts learned and an assessment. Homework will also be graded and sent back to the learner for review.Grading
includedClass Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
This course is designed to provide a comprehensive coverage of the concepts in a Pre-Algebra 1 course. This is Part 2 and will focus on the areas of Equations, Proportions, and Similar Figures Students will apply previous mathematical experiences to solve real world problems. Every class will follow a similar outline. All classes will begin with a short warm up. This could be skills that they may have previously learned before taking this course, or those that we have just reviewed. After the warm up, the topic will be introduced. The class will follow and I do, We do, you do format. This means, I will review the first few examples. Then we will complete a few examples together and then we will end with a them completing examples independently. There will be homework at the end of each class and it will be due before the start of the next class. Please note this class will run 3 days a week for 9 weeks during the school year and we will only cover the Chapters 5 - 7. Chapters 1 - 4 were covered in Part 1. Students will be encouraged to take part 3 to finish the course. The topics are as follows: Chapter 5 Multi-Step Equations and Inequalities Class 1: Perimeter and Area Class 2: Solving Equations with Variables on Each Side Class 3: Inequalities Class 4: Solving Inequalities Class 5: Solving Multi-Step Equations and Inequalities Class 6: Review and Practice Chapter 6 Ratio, Proportion and Similar Figures Class 7: Ratio and Unit Rates Class 8: Converting Rates and Measurements Class 9: Proportional and Non-Proportional Relationships Class 10: Mid Chapter Review Class 11: Solving Proportions Class 12: Scale Drawings and Models Class 13: Similar Figures and Dilations Class 14: Indirect Measurement Class 15: Review and Practice Chapter 7: Percent Class 16: Fractions Decimals, and Percent Class 17: Using the Percent Proportion and Percent Equations Class 18: Percent of Change Class 19: Simple and Compound Interest Class 20: Circle Graphs Class 21: Review and Practice Chapter 8 - Linear Functions and Graphing Class 22: Functions Class 23: Sequences & Equations Class 24: Representing Linear Functions Class 25: Rate of Change, Constant Rate of Change and Direct Variation Class 26: Mid-Chapter Review Class 27: Slope and Rate of Change Class 28: Slope Intercept Form Class 29: Writing Linear Equations Class 30: Review and Practice

Parental Guidance
This is part 2 of the class. In part 1 we covered topics such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. This specific skill will show up throughout this course and will extremely important when taking Algebra. If students have not taken Part 1, then they should be very familiar with this skill.
Third Party Tools: This class has the occasional use of Nearpod for review and assessments/quizzes during class and Kahoot for a fun review during class. YouTube video links that can can be viewed at home if the family chooses may be posted in the classroom for extra support on more challenging topics.
Please note: if there isn't anyone in attendance, there will not be a class recording. I will wait in the class for the first ten minutes. If no one arrives after that, I will leave. I will post notes of what was to be discussed during class.
Supply List
Most materials will be provided by the instructor. This will include worksheets and assignments needed to review. Students will need access to a printer to print notes and assignments. A basic calculator is needed (TI-30x). If students have access to a smart phone or tablet they can use a calculator app similar to Desmos or the website Desmos.com. Students should also have blank paper (lined or unlined) for taking notes and writing examples, graph paper for the graphing sections. A whiteboard and dry erase markers would also be beneficial for interactive reviews.
