Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
In our tutoring sessions, the student asks questions to prepare for an upcoming assessment or to review previous skills in a safe environment. I will teach new topics (for example: solving equations, fractions, exponents, ratios and proportions, correct order of operations, graphs) if a student wants to get a head start on what’s coming next. Improving a student's executive function skills is intertwined with my mathematics tutoring. Suggestions for extra practice and a one-page guide on common challenges can be provided at the end of the session. Using guiding questions, providing immediate feedback, identifying logical patterns, and making connections to the real world increase the success of discovering gaps in a student’s mathematics skills and mastering those along with new skills. My teaching philosophy is to meet students where they are in their knowledge and determine the best ways to empower them with life skills to build the futures they desire.

Learning Goals

Each student will become proficient in using a four-function or scientific calculator.
Each student will learn to convert data from one format to another, including graphs and tables.
