Beginner - Intermediate Level
This course is designed to provide comprehensive coverage of the fundamental concepts in a High School Geometry curriculum. Throughout the duration of the course, we will cover the first three chapters, focusing on foundational principles, logical reasoning, and geometric transformations. Students will draw on their previous mathematical experiences to solve real-world problems, enhancing their analytical and problem-solving skills. Chapter 1: The Tools of Geometry In this chapter, students will be introduced to the essential elements of geometry, such as points, lines, and planes, which form the building blocks of more complex concepts. They will learn how to measure and calculate distances and midpoints, understand different types of angles, and explore various geometric transformations like translations, rotations, and reflections. Additionally, students will gain an understanding of three-dimensional figures and how to represent them in two dimensions through nets and projections. Emphasis will also be placed on the precision and accuracy of geometric measurements and constructions, which are crucial for solving practical problems. Chapter 2: Logical Arguments & Line Relationships This chapter focuses on developing students' ability to construct and understand logical arguments in geometry. Students will learn to form conjectures and use counterexamples to disprove them. They will study different types of logical statements, including conditionals and biconditionals, and practice deductive reasoning to draw valid conclusions. The chapter also introduces formal geometric proofs, both two-column and paragraph styles, helping students to prove segment and angle relationships rigorously. Understanding the properties of parallel lines and transversals, along with the slope and equations of lines, will be key areas of study. These skills are essential for solving complex geometric problems and understanding the relationships between different geometric elements. Chapter 3: Rigid Transformations & Symmetry In this chapter, students will delve into the study of rigid transformations and symmetry. They will explore reflections, translations, and rotations in detail, learning how these transformations affect geometric figures. The concept of composition of transformations will be introduced, allowing students to understand the cumulative effect of multiple transformations applied to a figure. Symmetry, both line and rotational, will be another significant focus, helping students recognize and create symmetric figures. This chapter not only solidifies students' understanding of geometric transformations but also enhances their ability to apply these concepts to real-world scenarios, such as in design and architecture. By the end of these three chapters, students will have a strong foundation in geometric principles, logical reasoning, and transformational geometry. They will be equipped to tackle more advanced topics in geometry and apply their knowledge to a variety of real-world contexts.
Learning Goals
Understand points, lines, planes, and their relationships; calculate distances and midpoints; classify angles; and explore geometric transformations.
Recognize and describe three-dimensional figures, represent them in two dimensions, and emphasize precision in geometric measurements and constructions.

Parental Guidance
Parents should be aware that this course is a fast paced high school geometry course and students will be expected to have some knowledge of geometric skills.
Third Party Tools: This class has the occasional use of Nearpod for review and assessments/quizzes during class and Kahoot for a fun review during class. YouTube video links that can can be viewed at home if the family chooses may be posted in the classroom for extra support on more challenging topics.
Please note: if there isn't anyone in attendance, there will not be a class recording. I will wait in the class for the first ten minutes. If no one arrives after that, I will leave. I will post notes of what was to be discussed during class.
Pre-Requisites
Students should have taken an Algebra course before enrolling in Geometry.
Supply List
Most materials will be provided by the instructor. This will include worksheets and assignments needed to review. Students will need access to a printer to print notes and assignments. A basic calculator may be needed (TI-30x) or a graphing calculator (TI-84). If students have access to a smartphone or tablet, they can use a calculator app similar to Graphing Calc 2. They can also use the scientific calculator at desmos.com/scientific or the graphing calculator at desmos.com/graphing. These are my favorites. Students should also have blank paper (lined or unlined) for taking notes and writing examples, graph paper for the graphing sections, a ruler for creating straight lines and angles, a compass, and a protractor.
