US Grade 9 - 10
This course is meant for students who have completed Pre-Algebra A: Prep for Algebra I. Those who have not should read the entire course description to ensure they are prepared for it. Here are the concepts to be studied: The continuing importance of basic math concepts More of algebraic expressions Word problems Order of operations including rational and irrational numbers If there's time, these will follow: Equations with whole numbers and rational numbers Basic equations with all operations Longer equations with all operations Complex equations with all operations Note-taking In the spirit of producing independent and responsible students, notes should be taken during class. Without it, classwork and homework assignments can be difficult. Classwork This will provide the needed practice for the upcoming homework. The notes taken will assist in completing it. Help with math problems will be available from the teacher and classmates while class is in session. Questions are always welcome, even after class via messaging. Homework There is homework. It is the point of taking notes. Daily Review The homework will be reviewed by going over the answers to each problem when class starts each day. Problems will be explained and reworked when mistakes occur. Periodic Review Previous concepts will be reviewed to determine the level of competency and understanding in the subject. Teaching Style The approachable, forgiving (but no doormat), quick to smile, corny, and patient teacher also has class rules. Students will be asked direct questions for discussion and interaction. Students who are at least 14 or have an IEP that allows it can use calculators. The wishes of parents who do not want students to use calculators will be respected.

For most of the last two decades, I've seen many students assigned to grade-level math courses that they were nowhere near ready to take, much less succeed in...There's getting into Algebra I, and then there's being able to function in it. Algebra I is no joke!
