Advanced Level
This course is designed to provide a coverage of the prerequisites needed to start an Algebra 2 course. Students will apply previous mathematical experiences from pre-algebra and Algebra 1 classes to solve real world problems. Every class will follow a similar outline. We will start with a brief warm-up. These warm-ups are designed to get your child thinking about Advanced Algebra Concepts. After the warm-up, the topic will be introduced. The class will follow an I do, We do, you do format. This means, I will review the first few examples. Then we will complete a few examples together and then we will end with a them completing examples independently. After the independent work the students and I will complete an informal assessment to solidify what has been reviewed during class. There will be homework at the end of each class and it will be due before the start of the next class. The purpose of the homework is to review the skills that were taught in class. They should post their answers in the learner section for feedback and review. Any questions that they may have can be asked before the start of the next class. The final class will be an assessment that will give you an idea on how ready your child is for Algebra 2. The topics are as follows: Class 1: Representing Functions Class 2: FOIL Class 3: Factoring Polynomials 1 Class 4: Factoring Polynomials 2 Class 5: Counting Techniques 1 Class 6: Counting Techniques 2 Class 7: Adding Probabilities Class 8: Multiplying Probabilities Class 9: Congruent & Similar Figures Class 10:Pythagorean Theorem Class 11: Measures of Center, Spread, and Position Class 12: Ready to go…Assessment

Parental Guidance
Parents, please note that this is NOT a comprehensive Algebra 1 course. This class is recommended for students who have already taken Algebra 1 (or similar) class and wish to take an Algebra 2 class. The class is fast paced and there will be homework regularly.
Two Third Party Resources may be used during this class. Kahoot is a fun and interactive tool that allows students to review a variety of topics in an engaging manner. No account is needed and it will only be used for review purposes. YouTube has many educational videos that can help support learning. Occasionally if there is a challenging topic and additional support may be needed, students will be provided with a link where they can view additional examples.
Supply List
All notes will be provided by the teacher at the end of class as well as homework. Students will need access to a printer, a scientific calculator (to be used in some classes, but not all), and scratch paper to work problems out. If students do not have a scientific calculator, they can use the site desmos.com/scientific.
