What's included

33 live meetings
30 hrs 15 mins in-class hours
Homework
2-4 hours per week. Homework is assigned at the end of each class and reviewed in class only if many students have questions. Feedback can also be provided independently upon request.
Assessment
Students will be assessed with a mid chapter quiz and a test at the end of each topic. There will be a review and practice to ensure that students are learning what they are supposed to be learning.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This course is designed to provide comprehensive coverage of the concepts in the High School Geometry course. This is part 2 of the year-long course and it is recommended that students have taken part 1. During this course, we will get through 4 chapters. Students will apply previous mathematical experiences to solve real-world problems.

Chapter 4: Triangles and Congruence
This chapter dives into the fundamental properties of triangles, exploring concepts like triangle classification, congruence criteria (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS), and proofs involving triangle congruence. Students will learn to apply these principles to solve geometric problems and prove geometric relationships.

Chapter 5: Relationships in Triangles
In this chapter, students deepen their understanding of triangle relationships, including angle bisectors, medians, altitudes, and inequalities within triangles. They will explore how these relationships contribute to triangle properties and solve problems involving triangle inequalities and indirect proofs.

Chapter 6: Quadrilaterals
Students will study various types of quadrilaterals, focusing on their properties, classifications, and special characteristics such as parallelograms, rectangles, rhombuses, squares, trapezoids, and kites. They will learn to apply coordinate geometry to prove properties of quadrilaterals and solve problems related to their angles, sides, and diagonals.

Chapter 7: Proportions and Similarity
This chapter introduces the concept of similarity in geometric figures, particularly focusing on similar polygons and triangles. Students will explore criteria for similarity (AA similarity, SSS similarity, SAS similarity) and how to use proportions and scale factors to solve problems involving similar figures. They will also investigate applications of similarity in real-world contexts and geometric constructions.

By the end of these 4 chapters, students will have gained a thorough understanding of fundamental geometric concepts including triangle properties and congruence criteria, relationships within triangles such as bisectors and inequalities, properties and classifications of quadrilaterals, and the principles of similarity in polygons and triangles. They will be proficient in applying geometric proofs and solving complex problems involving angles, sides, and proportions. Additionally, students will have developed critical thinking skills through logical reasoning, and they will be able to confidently apply geometric principles to real-world situations.
Learning Goals
Master triangle congruence criteria (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS) and apply them in geometric proofs.

Parental Guidance
Parents should be aware that this course is a fast paced high school geometry course and students will be expected to have some knowledge of geometric skills. Third Party Tools: This class has the occasional use of Nearpod for review and assessments/quizzes during class and Kahoot for a fun review during class. YouTube video links that can can be viewed at home if the family chooses may be posted in the classroom for extra support on more challenging topics. Please note: if there isn't anyone in attendance, there will not be a class recording. I will wait in the class for the first ten minutes. If no one arrives after that, I will leave. I will post notes of what was to be discussed during class.
Pre-Requisites
This course is designed to provide comprehensive coverage of the concepts in the High School Geometry course. This is part 2 of the year-long course and it is recommended that students have taken part 1.
Supply List
Most materials will be provided by the instructor. This will include worksheets and assignments needed to review. Students will need access to a printer to print notes and assignments. A basic calculator may be needed (TI-30x) or a graphing calculator (TI-84). If students have access to a smartphone or tablet, they can use a calculator app similar to Graphing Calc 2. They can also use the scientific calculator at desmos.com/scientific or the graphing calculator at desmos.com/graphing. These are my favorites. Students should also have blank paper (lined or unlined) for taking notes and writing examples, graph paper for the graphing sections, a ruler for creating straight lines and angles, a compass, and a protractor.
