Class Experience

In this 5-week flexible sewing camp, students will learn an important life skill, sewing. Students will work independently or with an adult to sew straight lines, a drawstring bag, pillowcase, a quick and easy tote grocery bag, and a pair of pajama shorts or pants (your choice). In this class, students will also learn to self draft a pattern from a piece of clothing they already own. In class, I will walk students step by step through every stage of sewing our listed projects. If at any time you need to stop, pause or replay something, the pre-recorded video will be available for you to do so. Students will learn to sew with woven fabrics, troubleshooting machine issues, different types of fabric, sewing terminology, how to sew zig-zag lines, use measuring tape, cutting fabric, and more.

Sewing has been shown to build creativity, Focus, Improved Hand-Eye Coordination, Builds Self-Confidence, Wards Off Dementia and more. Sewing teaches discipline, calmness, and patience. Sewing encourages creativity and a sense of accomplishment, especially for children.

Lessons will take 30 minutes to 2 hours (pajama pants or shorts) to complete. Please do not hesitate to ask questions and leave comments in the classroom because someone else may be wondering the same thing. Students will post pictures of their weekly projects throughout the various stages of completion from start to finish in our classroom and I will provide feedback of your work. Students will be able to ask questions each week and I will answer them.
