Class Experience

In this 2-day LIVE sewing camp, students will learn an important life skill, sewing. Students will learn sewing machine parts, sewing safety, some sewing terminology, how to sew straight stitches and finish camp with sewing a drawstring bag. Students will learn and work on measuring fabric, learn about woven fabric and cut fabric using scissors or a rotary cutter. Students will work independently or with an adult to measure, cut and/or sew straight lines and their final project, the drawstring bag. In this 2-day camp, I will walk students step by step through every stage of sewing our sewing basics. 

This is a great mini-camp for those who've never sewn before or are new to sewing. If your student is not in the age category this class is listed in, please send me a message so that I can be sure to make any necessary adjustments to the class. 

Sewing has been shown to build creativity, Focus, Improved Hand-Eye Coordination, Builds Self-Confidence, Wards Off Dementia and more. Sewing teaches discipline, calmness, and patience. Sewing encourages creativity and a sense of accomplishment, especially for children.

Day 1: Machine Parts, Sewing Terminology and Sewing Straight Lines: 1/4 yard cotton woven fabric or scrap fabric
Day 2: Sewing Terminology, Measuring, Cutting, and Sewing Drawstring Bag: 1 cotton woven fat quarter, 3 yards or 1 spool of 3/8"  width grosgrain or satin ribbon 

Students will post pictures of their sewing straight lines practice fabric and their final project in the classroom.

***Class may end up to 30 minutes early (Day 1 ONLY)***

Supply List
Working sewing machine
Thread for your machine and color of your choice
Basic sewing supplies: needles, pins, fabric scissors, seam ripper, ruler/measuring tape (sewing kits can be purchased from any sewing store)
1 fat quarter of cotton for drawstring bag
3/8" wide grosgrain or satin ribbon for drawstring bag
chalk/ pencil/ fabric pen
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
