Class Experience

Sew, a needle pulling thread. Let’s make Mini Fashion and Friends!

This class welcomes all levels within the 9- 12 age.

Are you a budding designer, with sketchbooks filled with designs and would love to see them in fabric? Or, maybe you would just love to learn the basics in hand sewing? Whichever way you look at it, this is the course for you! In this ongoing course each week we will explore the fundamentals of hand sewing, pattern making and fashion design drawing. Learners are welcome to follow projects outlined each week or sew something on their own. I (Teacher Char) am happy to help each learner with their projects on a 1:1 basis during class. At the beginning of each class we will go over the project of the week. Then, through step by step instruction we will begin to make patterns, cut pieces and begin to sew. If a learner would prefer their own project, step by step instruction is still offered, learners are also welcome to explore on their own. I make check in's with each learner 3-4 times each class, offering guidance and help with their projects.

This sewing class is not about speed, some classes will end with a finished project and others may not. Learners are welcome to continue their sewing after class and share pictures of their finished work in our classroom or in our next meeting together.

This is also a social class, historically sewing brought together communities, neighbors and friends where they would help each other and socialise while they worked. This class is very much a combination of technique, sharing and learning from one another.

** We will not be learning on sewing machines, learners who are familiar with using sewing machines are welcome to use them during class**
We will go over safety when using sewing needles, pins and scissors. This is a great course, and a great skill to have for learners.
