Class Experience

Hello! Art is a fantastic and important aspect of the development of your child’s life and how they learn. I love mixing various learning strategies when I teach, even when it is just the alphabet. Children, through the ages, love to draw. Whenever I have implemented drawing into an activity the visual part of their brain helps them remember what they are learning much better. When children draw, their cognitive processes increase. Research shows that creative activities, like drawing, can help children with their cognition, memory, and recognition. It is important to know that visual memory is especially improved when children draw things from memory. It forces them to recall the details and try to replicate them with as much accuracy as possible. This is why this class is so beneficial for your child. Mixing the drawing, with the alphabet, sounds, and words will help carry them over into the next step of reading. Singing and memorizing a poem about the letter will reinforce the letter. This activity can be continued wherever they go. It will make adventures out of the alphabet as they go around finding things that start with a specific letter/sound.

This class includes drawing pictures, writing or crafting the ABCs while memorizing a poem and singing a song about the letter. You will be provided with a handout that is optional. A piece of paper or marker board will work fine. At the conclusion of each class, students will share their pictures with the class and we will play a game.

This is an ongoing class and will meet once a week for 15 minutes. Students will have the opportunity to sing, draw, write, and share their pictures with the class.

I look forward to drawing the ABCs with your child.

I believe children learn best while being fully engaged which happens when fun is involved. When I love what I am teaching, they will love what they are learning. If I am not learning, I am not having fun. I look forward to having your child in my classroom.
