In this 8-week course, students will learn the songs presented in Suzuki Violin Book 1 up to song #9 - Perpetual Motion. We will learn all of the new techniques such as staccato, legato, retakes, dotted rhythms, pick-up notes, etc. that are presented within these songs. Each week we will learn a new song that builds on the technique learned in the previous songs. Songs and Techniques presented in this class: Lightly Row - legato bow stroke, 4th finger, A major key signature and finger pattern Song of the Wind - staccato bow stroke, retakes, more complicated string crossings Go Tell Aunt Rhody - legato bow stroke, faster retakes O Come, Little Children - pick-up notes, introducing dotted rhythms May Song - reinforcing dotted rhythms, arpeggios Long, Long Ago - dynamic swells Allegro - switching between staccato and legato bow strokes, dynamics, musical terminology (dolce, ritardando, a tempo, fermata) Perpetual Motion - staccato, steady fast bow strokes Although we will be using the Suzuki book, I do not teach using the Suzuki Method. I use a more traditional method that is tailored to the students' specific learning needs. Along with group instruction, I will also make time for individualized instruction during the live class. In order for this class to be successful, students will need a basic understanding of how to properly hold the violin and bow and note reading. If your learner is brand new to the violin, I suggest taking my class Beginning Violin first (where we learn basic set-up, technique and learn the song Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star). Please send me a message if you have any questions about the class. I look forward to meeting you and furthering your violin studies!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Southeast Missouri State University
Hello! My name is Ms. Lindsay. I have a Bachelor of Music degree with emphasis in violin performance. I have been teaching for 16 years to people of all ages and have been playing violin and piano for 23 years! I have years of performance experience with the Southeast Missouri State Symphony and the University City Symphony Orchestra. I accompany children and coach them for solo and ensemble competitions. My favorite performance setting would definitely have to be playing in orchestra pits for musicals and operas! I've played in more orchestra pits than I can count. Some of my favorites are Into The Woods, Peter Pan, and Die Zauberflöte (aka The Magic Flute).
I teach private violin lesson for all levels as well as group classes for beginning violinists. I love to connect with my students, listen to their joys and concerns and give positive constructive critique to help them grow as musicians. In my private lessons, I tailor the lesson to the child's specific learning styles and interests. Want to learn classical music? Fiddle? Jazz? Pop? I've got you covered. I start my students with a classical foundation and then branch out into any style they might be interested in.
Besides teaching music, I love to perform with other musicians, cook, bake, crochet, listen to audio-books and learn new skills! I look forward to meeting you!

Per Outschool's limited refund policy: "Full refund within 24 hours of purchase or up to a week in advance of the class.", missed appointments do not qualify for refund. I will be glad to transfer your learner to another section but require 24 hours' notice.
For one-time classes:
If within the week, you realize you won't be able to make class, please submit a transfer request from the classroom at least 24 hours in advance. This ensures another student who would like to take the class has enough time to see the opening and enroll.
If contacted after class, I cannot refund or transfer. I do understand personal/family emergencies come up and will do my best to support you if I am contacted before class. If your learner is withdrawn on your end within the non-refundable period, I am unable to transfer you. It is best to contact me first for your options.
*Refund/Transfer Policy*
Per Outschool policy, there are no refunds for missed classes. I will be glad to transfer your learner to another section but require 24 hours' notice. This timing is necessary in order to fill the spot you are vacating. If I transfer you on short notice, I may not be able to fill your original spot, which means you are taking up two spots but only paying for one.
