A continuation of ukulele lessons for young students who are new to the instrument. We will continue to learn more songs, chords, and how joyful this instrument can be! Must have completed Uke Can Do It Part 1: Group Ukulele Lessons for Young Beginners to enroll. If your learner has studied the ukulele previously with a different teacher and you are interested in this camp, please message me first to confirm that this is an appropriate level course before enrolling. Students will learn/review: -How to hold the ukulele -Playing position and rest position -The parts of the ukulele -How to strum -Proper hand and finger position -Simple chords -How to switch from one chord to another -How to count and play chord patterns on the ukulele -How to play and sing popular children's songs such as "The Hokey Pokey", "The Wheels on the Bus", "Mary Had a Little Lamb", and "The Mulberry Bush". The main focus of the Part 2 class will be developing the technique needed to switch from one chord to another successfully. The songs will progress in difficulty each class and learners will develop the skills needed to switch more frequently from chord to chord within each song. Learners will gain confidence in their ukulele playing skills throughout this course. Students will get the opportunity play ukuleles together as a group for the majority of the class. They will also receive one-one-one assistance as needed and tips to help improve their technique. Students will be encouraged to sing along to songs that they will learn to play. This will be an engaging class that will allow students' first experiences with the instrument to be fun, memorable, and frustration-free! Each lesson will include singing the Hello Song, playing a strumming warmup, practicing ukulele technique and chords, learning and playing a new song on the ukulele and singing the Goodbye Song. A Google Slides presentation to practice and review the material learned during class and 4 play-along videos to practice and continue to get better at the songs we learn after our camp are included. I encourage family members to assist their learners if needed, but to remain off-screen during this class per Outschool policy. Frequent modeling, clear directions, and repetition will be used during instruction to maximize students' success.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basics of ukulele including how to hold the instrument, ukulele playing position and rest position, how to strum, proper hand and finger position, simple chords, how to count and play chord patterns, and how to play multiple popular children's songs. I am a certified music educator with a M.A in Music & Music Education. I fell in love with the ukulele over a decade ago, and have been playing and teaching it ever since. I have been teaching group ukulele classes for 10 years. I also have taught private music lessons for 15 years. I love this instrument and specialize in teaching beginning instrumental music lessons to young beginners. The ukulele is a happy instrument, so my goal is to make learning the ukulele fun and frustration-free.
