Class Experience

Welcome to Mr. Axel's studio! Lessons are flexible, fun and they focus on the music you love! Are you a beginner with no experience? I will give you all the tools you need to start your musical journey. Do you have a few years of experience playing the ukelele or other musical instruments? We will build on your knowledge and work together to reach your goals. I believe in the importance of having a foundation in classical technique, but we will also have fun learning songs and pieces that inspire you! Do you love pop, rock, jazz, musicals, famous movie songs, or classical pieces? Great, we can get right to work!

My teaching approach is interactive, using a combination of engaging activities, demonstrations, and games to help students apply the concepts taught. My teaching style is encouraging and patient, and I am committed to creating a positive and nurturing learning environment for my students. I believe that every student has the potential to learn to play the ukelele and I am committed to helping students strengthen their confidence and explore their creativity.

In this class, we'll learn different techniques, mechanics, and exercises to help you build a solid basic foundation of ukelele techniques. This class will support the development of the right and left hand, fingerpicking, chords, and other specific methods. All ukelele players will complete individual projects executing different music skills during this course.

This class is ongoing; therefore, you can start at any time and cancel classes at any time. Please feel free to contact me if you need any further information to request and schedule your private lessons.

I am excited to meet your learner and dive into the wonderful world of music-making!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Music from Rice University
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile
I am a graduate student of Rice University, where I completed my Master’s degree in cello performance. I received my Bachelor of Music at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, a Professional Performance Certificate, and a Master of Music degree from Lynn University.

As a performance artist, I performed with numerous chamber ensembles and orchestras throughout North, Central, South America, Europe, and East Asia. I participated in prestigious summer festivals, including Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival, SHMF (Germany) for four consecutive years, Orchestra of the Americas (YOA), Latin American Festival of Chascomús (Argentina), International Music Academy of Solsona, AIMS Festival (Spain), Zeist Music Days (Netherlands), Quartet Fellowship Program at Wintergreen Summer Music Festival and The Aronson Cello Festival (United States). Additionally, I took part in the Ensemble Bartok Chile International Tour 2015 “Chile, Window to the Universe,” which has been invited to participate in China’s “Meet in Beijing Festival,” with performances in Beijing, Seoul, London, and Málaga.

I joined the New Haven Symphony Orchestra for the 22-24 season and currently perform frequently with the Palm Beach Symphony, Sarasota Orchestra, Jacksonville Symphony, and Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. I also played regularly with Chicago Philharmonic and Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra.

Aside from performing, I have an extensive background and a great passion for teaching. I have been involved in multiple projects in the past, where I showed my dedication as a music educator. I taught at Harmony Program's Summer Camp at The Juilliard School (New York) as a Teaching Artist, Preparatory School of Music at Lynn's Conservatory of Music (Boca Raton), Houston Youth Symphony CODA Music Program, Vivace International School of Music, Houston (Texas), and Zeta Charter Schools (New York), among others.

My teaching philosophy is that every student has a unique way of learning; therefore, I choose teaching methods and lesson plans that are suitable for each student’s needs. I believe that every student has the potential to learn to play musical instruments, and I am committed to helping students strengthen their confidence and explore their creativity.

On a personal note, I love watching good movies, painting, drawing, traveling to exciting places, and spending time with my family.
