Class Experience
Learn a new song each week in this ongoing advanced beginner ukulele club! Designed for young students who are at the advanced beginner level. Perfect level for learners who have completed my Uke Can Do It Part 1 & 2 classes. Learners should know how to hold the ukulele, perform a basic down strum and how to play the C, F and C7 chords before enrolling in this class. Each week we will sing a Hello song to welcome everyone to class, work on ukulele chords and technique, learn how to sing...
Students will practice the basics of ukulele including how to hold the instrument, playing position and rest position, how to strum, proper hand and finger position, chords, how to count and play chord patterns, and how to play multiple popular children's songs. They will also improve their rhythm, counting skills, and pattern recognition.
I am a certified music educator with a M.A in Music & Music Education. I fell in love with the ukulele over a decade ago, and have been playing and teaching it ever since. I have been teaching group ukulele classes for 10 years. I also have taught private music lessons for 15 years. I love this instrument and specialize in teaching beginning instrumental music lessons to young beginners. The ukulele is a happy instrument, so my goal is to make learning the ukulele fun and frustration-free.
Students are encouraged to practice the chords and songs learned after each class.
A soprano, tenor, or concert ukulele is required for this class and must be tuned before we begin (to pitches G/C/E/A- parents please assist with this as needed). Any song sheets to use for practicing will be sent to you.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Parents please assist your learner with tuning their ukulele before each class. An electronic tuner or the third-party tuning app "Guitar Tuna" can be used. This app is completely free and does not require an account to be made to use it.
