Class Experience

In this course, students will work with the instructor to develop their skill of playing the ukulele!

Wherever the student is in their skill, the teacher aims to meet them there at their individual level. The teacher will work to help the student build confidence, to learn notes, chords, strumming patterns, and to be able to repeat simple patterns of notes and chord progressions. As students progress the patterns and songs to play will get more complex and challenging.

The teacher will teach by rote as well as note names on the staff! We will be learning about ear training (aural skills) and theory. We will be working on technique and good rhythm. We will be working on a variety of activities that help students become wonderful musicians!

To begin with, students will not need any materials other than themselves and their instrument. As students progress we may decide to utilize a book or other specific sheet music.

Lessons will always be tailored to the student depending on what the teacher feels the student can benefit most from. However, here is an example of lessons:

Week 1 Sept 9: introductions, introduce how to hold the ukulele & string names
Week 2 Sept 16: review string names from previous week, work on a chord
Week 3 Sept 23: review string names & chord from previous week, introduce new single notes
Week 4 Sept 30: review new notes, learn new chord to be able to start on our first full song!

Hi!

I teach piano lessons, voice lessons, trumpet lessons, and general music lessons! I have taught private music lessons for 20 years now! Wow! Haha! I have my masters degree in piano performance/pedagogy from Bowling Green State University. I love to make music fun & I enjoy working with young children, middle grade & high school students to especially encourage them! Along with my in person students, I have taught a great deal of lessons online. I have three kids under the age of 5 so every day is a new adventure!! Hope to see you soon!
