Class Experience

This class is a beginner ukulele class for children. This is a private lesson and will be specialized to fit the needs of your child. We will meet once a week through the course of this class. They will review the parts of the ukulele, string names, some basic chords (C, A minor, F and G), and how to strum and play the instrument. Your child will practice switching Fromm one chord to another which will help them develop the skills to play along with several songs in future classes. We will practice switching from one chord to another at various speeds. They will begin to practice playing chords along to simple songs such as Mary Had a Little Lamb, Row Row Row your boat, and London Bridge. This class will be paced with the ability of the student enrolled. Your child will be assessed throughout the lesson and may learn more depending on competency. Please tune your child’s ukulele before class so your child is ready to play. You can watch YouTube videos on how to tune your ukulele and/or download a tuning app to help.

Hello! My name is Jackie. I am very excited to teach your child! I got my Bachelors in Music Education at the University of Miami. At this time, I played the saxophone in many bands and ensembles as well. The bari sax was always my favorite! I love teaching children through songs, movement and fun! I am energetic and a kid at heart and love to use this to help motivate students of all levels. I was an elementary music teacher for six years. During this time I taught students K-5 singing, solfege, rhythm and note reading, recorder, ukulele and other music listening skills. I also worked with students teaching math and reading during their intervention time. I’ve directed several musicals after school including Beauty and the Beast Jr, Annie, Jr, and Aladdin Kids. I am now working as an online English, Saxophone and Ukulele teacher after having a baby during the pandemic. I hope to teach classes to promote students’ reading and English skills as well as math. Since music is also my passion, I will teach different music related classes depending on your child's interest including: ukulele, saxophone, recorder, rhythm and note reading, solfege, music movement/listening and some general music classes. I love traveling and exploring new places and especially love going to Disney World in my spare time. I can’t wait to teach your child and hope to get them excited about learning through Outschool! I hope to see your child in class!
