Do you believe the Lost City of Atlantis is out there waiting to be discovered? In this class, we will look at the history behind the mystery of this lost city. Together we will explore Plato's text and discuss whether we think Plato's story was true or just a myth created to teach humans a lesson. If it was just a lesson Plato was teaching us, we will examine what that lesson could mean and if there was anything valuable to take away from his story. To critically examine this mystery we will look at the different theories, evidence, and search missions that have attempted to locate this mysterious city. Students will be provided opportunities to answer questions such as 'Do you believe the city was real?', 'Would you explore the ocean to find this city?', 'Do you think it's possible there are mermaids in the city if it exists?'. This class is intended for students of all knowledge levels, as I will provide a full background history of the story so that all students have the same level of knowledge to engage. Students will be able to participate during the lesson with the interactive website 'Pear Deck' which allows students to share their opinions throughout the class (it is optional and only used for larger class sizes). This website follows along with the slideshow presentation and helps students engage with the lesson. At the end of class, students will get to play a Kahoot to test their knowledge of what they learned in the class. Together we will dive deep into the fascinating mystery of the Lost City of Atlantis.
